J2ME

Java Micro Edition (Java ME or J2ME) is a specification of a subset of the Java platform for the development of software for tiny, small devices such as PDAs, mobile phones and set-top boxes.

J2ME enjoys an high optimized environment targeting devices from many industries. It has protection and connectivity and assure application programs for a lot of various devices (smart cards, decoder, multimedia devices).
J2ME is also a portable platform and its environment can be emulated with a normal PC giving an easy access to development and test.

Java ME was designed by Sun Microsystems.
As of 22 December 2006, the Java ME source code is licensed under the GNU General Public License, and is released under the project name phoneME.
J2ME is the most common technology for mobile phone game development; applications written for this profile are called MIDlets. In this sections you will find examples, sources and information linked to this particular field of Java software.
